Walter H. Backman Memorial Service

Memorial Day | Monday, May 28, 2018 | April 29, 1919 - December 7, 1941 


PRAYER SERVICE & PROCESSION

There will be a short prayer service at Healy Chapel 332 W. Downer Place in Aurora at 1:00pm on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28th.

At approximately 1:30pm the memorial procession will leave Healy Chapel going west on Downer Place, turn north on Highland Avenue, then east on Sullivan Road, and finally north on Illinois Route 25 to the cemetery. The procession is estimated to take approximately 30 minutes arriving at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia on or about 2:00pm.


MEMORIAL SERVICE AT RIVER HILLS

The U.S. Navy will conduct the memorial service with Rear Admiral Carol Lynch presiding and will also include a 7 member honor detail. RADM Lynch’s biography can be found here: http://www.navy.mil/navydata/bios/bio.asp?bioID=950


PARKING & SHUTTLE SERVICE

Some parking will be available at River Hills Memorial Park. Overflow parking has been arranged with the Batavia VFW Post 1197 located at 645 South River Street in Batavia, just north of River Hills Memorial Park on IL Route 25.

Shuttle service between the VFW overflow parking and the cemetery is being sponsored by Vitas. The 25 passenger shuttle bus will begin picking up passengers at 1:00pm at the VFW and will provide transportation back to the VFW until 4:00pm.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early in order to park and transit to the cemetery.
